Traversing the Globe: the L'Estrange photographic legacy
May 15, 2021, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Robert Augustus Henry L’Estrange (1858-1941) led an interesting and colourful life.
As an amateur photographer, collector, family chronicler, Irish protestant emigrant to Queensland in the mid-1880s, his extraordinary global photographic legacy allows us a glimpse into places and a past that in some cases have been lost both in Queensland and around the globe.
The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Digital Collection Alumni collection records, together with one digital and one traditional exhibition, will connect and make discoverable a wealth of never before displayed images to engage new audiences across the world.
The original and copied images, journals and books have been digitised from glass plates and lantern slides and vary in dates from 1823 to 1960.
