Back through time in Banyo and Nudgee

May 16, 2021

Uncover the hidden gems of Banyo and Nudgee and discover a range of Local Heritage Places that have contributed to, and reflect, the area’s diverse history.

Starting at St Vincent’s Orphanage at 131 Queens Road, Nudgee, this trail will take you all the way back to the mid-1800’s, exploring how the early settlers first made use of the land around them and came to establish what is now known as the suburbs of Banyo and Nudgee.

An area rich in multicultural influences, learn about the effect of early German immigrant farmers on the suburb’s development and early housing styles – many of which are still standing. Hear how Nudgee’s first telephone exchange came to be or admire the variety of faiths in the area that are reflected by the number of churches built over the years and survive today.

Follow the online map on your device for a self-guided tour exploring the Local Heritage Places of this historically significant Brisbane region – all while getting your step count up!

these trails have multiple stops which will be visible via the following link from 18 April, 2021.
