Visit from the Governor of Queensland and Patron of National Trust Queensland

Her Excellency, the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, and Patron of National Trust of Queensland, recently visited Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and Hospital on 6 March to see firsthand some of Australia's unique wildlife and learn more about our important conservation efforts and projects. Her visit began with a warm welcome by Mark Townend, President National Trust of Queensland amongst the sounds of native birds and the lush greenery that defines the Sanctuary's renowned atmosphere. Her Excellency then embarked on a complete tour of the Sanctuary and Hospital, accompanied by Jayme Cuttriss, CEO of National Trust Queensland, and Travis Couch, General Manager of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

The tour commenced with an exploration of the Sanctuary's renowned Koala Habitat, where the iconic Australian marsupials thrive in their natural surroundings, creating an immersive experience for guest to enjoy. Her Excellency gained insights into the vital role that the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital plays in the rehabilitation and care of injured wildlife during an exclusive tour hosted by Dr Michael Pyne OAM. Dr Pyne provided detailed explanations, showcasing the dedication and expertise that contribute to the hospital's success in preserving Australia's diverse fauna.

After the educational visit at the Hospital, Her Excellency enjoyed a tour of the recently opened Sanctuary attraction “Outback Springs” where she had the chance to meet our delightful farmyard animals. Her Excellency had the chance to see how the construction of the Sanctuary’s new event space “The Homestead” is progressing prior to the official opening in May this year. This visit serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving our unique flora and fauna and the role we can all play in this cause for generations to enjoy.
