In 1828, explorers camped locally on Canoe (Oxley) Creek.
Until 1859 the ‘Ipswich TRACK’ ran three kilometres south of the current ‘Ipswich ROAD,’ where Cobb and Co. operated the mail coach service 1866-1876. From that time, Durack and Willawong suburbs have grown slowly and in 2023 are still part of Brisbane’s fringe development.

This publication is not intended to be a scholarly study but rather a ‘pot pourri,’ an assemblage of facts, newspaper items and personal stories, primarily of the 19th Century pioneers who settled in this small part of Brisbane and Queensland.
Gathered for the growing communities of Durack and Willawong, the stories include the 1862 settlement of ‘Oxley Creek,’ one early piece of the jigsaw of influences and stories that formed these two suburbs.

Much of the story is told in snippets from newspapers of the time, sourced on-line during the Covid lock-downs of 2020-2022.

Copies of the book will be available at $25.
