Trust Talks at Queensland Museum Kurilpa
A defining feature of the Trust Talks series is our commitment to place, choosing locations with meaningful stories and deep connections to the themes we explore.
Our upcoming Trust Talks: The Science of Saving Koalas, on 21 August 2025, will be held at the Queensland Museum Kurilpa. This venue offers a powerful setting to discuss scientific innovation and conservation, with an optional private tour of the Discovery Centre and Wild State exhibition available to attendees after the event.
We are always looking for meaningful ways to connect people with place, and this location enables us to do just that.
The Queensland Museum is part of a rich tradition of storytelling and science. Founded in 1862 by the Queensland Philosophical Society, its roots stretch back to one of Brisbane’s oldest buildings — the Windmill on Wickham Terrace. Today, the Museum is home to the State Collection, a remarkable archive of over 1.2 million cultural, natural and geological items, along with more than 14 million research objects.
As a museum without borders, it reaches audiences across the state and beyond through its five public sites, travelling exhibitions, education loan services, online access, and popular publications. It also supports cultural institutions through its Museum Development Officers, while affiliated museums like the Earth Sciences Museum at The University of Queensland provide access to more specialised components of the collection.
By holding this Trust Talk at Queensland Museum, we bring together past, present and future — pairing critical conversations in conservation with a deepened sense of place and purpose. It’s a chance to explore fascinating stories, experience a unique venue, and connect with others in the heritage, science and conservation communities.
At its heart, Trust Talks is about remarkable places, meaningful stories and the people who care about them.
